Description:
The object is a long sweater made from a simple knit stitch. It is made of multi-colour yarn in blue, red, and gold.
Story:
My mother remembers getting the yarn and starting the project in 2001 when she found out she was pregnant. She chose a neutral colour for the baby's gender because she did not know the baby's gender. The original blanket pattern was intended to be a knit-purl, knit-purl pattern for a patchwork square look. She was not able to finish the blanket, but years later, in 2015, she was able to make a sweater for herself out of the yarn, using a simple knit stitch.
My Mothers Point of View:
My mother started this project wanting to make something for her firstborn baby, which would have been me. Her kids outgrew the blanket fast, and when you have two of them, you have way less time to do things like knitting because when you are sitting down, they jump on you. She decided to switch to a sweater because she still liked the yarn and found it to be soft, so she thought it would make a good sweater. She has felt regret for not being able to finish it, but she also remembers it feeling nice to finally complete a project after her 14-year knitting break to care for her kids.
My Brothers Point of View:
My Point of View:
At one time, she had intended this blanket for me, and I know she regrets not being able to finish it in time. However, I appreciate the sentiment behind her trying anyway, even if it was not completed. I am really happy she made something for herself. Being a mom means much sacrifice, but I think she deserves to celebrate herself and make things for herself, which she does not always do.
