- The object is a replica of Hermione's bottomless bag from the Harry Potter series. It is a pattern that comes from a Harry Potter pattern book. It is a circular drawstring bag made of two different shades of purple yarn and has beaded accents added to the bag. It is lined with a black acrylic fabric.
- Story:
- In July, my mother decided to make me this bag as a gift. She ended up knitting it in secret when I was away. My mom had originally planned to give it to me for my birthday, but she was unable to finish it in time, so I received it at Christmastime instead. I had no idea she was making it for me until I got it. Keeping it from me was a whole family affair.
- My Mothers Point of View:
- My Mom has said that she enjoyed the process of making the bag for me. Sometimes she would want to work on the bag, but she was not able to because I was in the room. It was a project that compelled her to learn a new skill and experiment with new techniques. She remembers having my schedule timed so she knew how much time I would take getting ready before coming downstairs, where I might see the bag.
- My Fathers Point of View:
- My Dad remembers helping my mom hide this bag from me. In the mornings, he would loudly say hi to me so my mom had time to hide it, and he would also distract me at the door when I got home. He remembers how much fun my mom had making it, and he said he was happy to be a part of the process even in a small way.
- My Brothers Point of View:
- My brother remembers one time that I came home early while my mom was making this bag out in the open. I walked in and he said he leaped from one couch to the other, sitting on the project, so I wouldn't see it. He remembers pulling out his phone and pretending to be on it so I would not be suspicious. When he thought about it, he had a lot of fun helping me hide the gift and seeing my confused face when I got it.
- My Point of View:
- I remember when I got the bag from my mom; I didn't believe she had made it. I had just gotten a knit sweater she bought, and I couldn't remember her working on it, so I was confused. That gift meant a lot to me because I had told her I would like that bag, but I was not expecting her to make it for me. It made me feel loved, and it still does. I do giggle when I look back at that time and think about how oblivious I was to it all. I had no idea. I was not even remotely suspicious.
