Single Quilting Rod Item Info

Title:
Single Quilting Rod
Creator:
Author's paternal great-grandmother
Date Created:
1960
Description:
This tool was used between 1900 and 1970. It is an older tool and is no longer commonly used in quilting as it once was. The rod is made out of wood and metal. It was used to roll up a large quilt, allowing you to focus on a specific section without the quilt getting in the way. How it was created is unknown. Whether it was mass-produced or handmade is uncertain, but it was used by my great-grandma when she made quilts. She would have used it to make other projects recorded in this collection, like the purple wedding quilt and my mother's baby blanket. When speaking to my grandma about this tool, she shared memories connected to her mother using it and was very disappointed that she could only find one of the rods, as the tool usually came in pairs to hold both ends of the quilt.
