A circular bag made out of granny squares and lined with fabric. The project is made from white chunky yarn and multi-coloured blue, yellow, and red chunky yarn. The fabric inside the bag is yellow, with red dots scattered throughout.
Story:
This object is the second granny square bag I ever made. I made it for my mom after she complimented me on the first granny square bag I made, which was my second complete crochet project. I started the project in 2022, when I first began crocheting, but did not finish it until 2024.
My Mothers Point of View:
My mother remembers seeing me make a granny square bag for myself and saying she would like one too. Then, she didn't hear anything about the bag for about a year. She felt it fell to the wayside for a little bit there, which it did. To her, even though it took her a while to receive the gift, it meant a lot that I never forgot about the project, and she appreciated the time and effort I put into it. She says I made it out of love. When talking to her about the gift, she kept saying she felt privileged to receive it, because of her experience crafting, she knows how much hard work and time it takes to make a gift. She likes the sturdiness of the bag. She thinks the thicker yarn is a little too heavy, but she loves the colour, so she doesn't want to complain.
My Point of View:
My mom has made numerous crafts and items for me throughout the years, so when I started learning to crochet, I wanted to give something back to her. To show her how much I love her and give her a handmade gift, as she does not receive those often. I made all the granny squares in about a year, but I procrastinated sewing them all together, making the strap, and sewing in the lining for almost a year. Waiting that long to put everything together shows an interesting mix of my skills. The earlier granny squares I made had threads sticking out because I had not yet mastered sewing in ends, but the strap has no strings because of how much I have grown in my crochet skills. I am really happy she loves it so much, and I'm glad I could give her this gift. She shared her love of crafting with me, and now I get to share it with her in a new way.
